The 2016 "Flying Lions" team accomplished a great feat by making it to the TARC nationals competition in Washington, D.C.. At the close of the first round, the team was placed 2nd of 101 teams, bringing them to round 2. Unfortunately, a heavy rain storm was closing in towards the launch site, and fast. The team rushed to get the rocket in the air before it was too late, but the cold front and gusty winds proved too much for the rocket to handle, blowing it off course and cutting the height several hundred feet below target. After the worst was over, the Flying Lions still placed 21st in the nation, qualifying them for the NASA rocketry competition.
